Jason--9 months

Jason has quickly gone from crawling to standing to cruising to pushing. At 9 months he weighed 20 pounds 12 oz and was 29 inches long. While I never really thought of Madison as a little baby I guess she was compared to Jason. She reached these benchmarks by her 15 month check-up! He has grown out of all of the 6-9 month and 9 month outfits and even some of the 12 month outfits are too tight. He is a charmer. He has a contagious laugh and Carson has realized he is able to entertain Jason at the dinner table and get Jason laughing uncontrollably! He moves the fastest on his knees but pulls himself up to anything and anyone.
Here's a brief video of Jason pushing the "walker". He gets very frustrated when he runs into things and can't go any further.

True Woman '08

Jodi said it so much better on her blog then I could on mine so the following is a quote taken from her blog:
"October 9-12: The True Woman Conference 2008 has ended, but hopefully there are lasting effects for the 6200+ women that attended as well as many who watched it via live streaming webcast. God was exulted, Christ was proclaimed and the Holy Spirit was definitely present throughout the weekend.

This conference was so much more than an event, it was more of a mindset. It was a call to live counter culturally, like salmon that swim upstream. It was a beautiful picture of Biblical womanhood and how God's glory is powerfully displayed by women living out their lives in accordance with God's Word and submitted to His truths!

This affects us in so many ways: In our homes, in our churches, in our marriages and in our friendships. It's loving what God loves and filtering all that we think, say and do through a Biblical worldview. Not a list of "do nots", but an embracing of God's ways which are always far better and produce lasting joy instead of just temporal "happiness". Sounds impossible but God's grace and power is more than sufficient.

Needless to say, our little group of 6 women were challenged, inspired, motivated and encouraged through so many wonderful speakers and topics. At the end of most of the sessions, we were given 15-20 minutes to personally respond to the messages in prayer. We also stayed late on Friday night with many other women and had a concert of prayer - for our families, our children, our marriages, and our nation."

Travel went well on all fronts....on-time flights, no lost or damaged baggage, etc. Matt and Sam did great with the kids and I was able to enjoy the time away without being too homesick! Hopefully the pictures below capture the whole event. Some of the pictures are included for the sake of Jodi and her friends as they are in them and not me!

Matt and I and the little ones before my departure. The large windows at the airport were behind us...hence the glare!
A self-portrait as I was sitting in baggage claim at Chicago O'Hara waiting for Jodi and the rest of the gals--can I just say that baggage claim is a very boring place to sit for an hour--at least I had a Starbucks coffee to keep me company! :)
Jodi and I in front of the limo that took us from the airport to the hotel and then back again on Sunday. It was my first time in a limo...we felt like movie stars!
Teresa, Deb, Jodi, and Brenda during our limo ride.
Me, Jackie, and Teresa in the limo.
One shot at the conference. There were multiple big screens throughout the convention center for those sitting not so close. This was captured during worship as Keith and Kristen Getty led.
Our lunch break on Friday was spent out in the warm Chicago sun in the convention center parking lot. Box lunches were provided and the 6000+ ladies just swarmed out of the convention center to any curb they could find to get some sun. It was gorgeous the entire time we were there. Our jackets were really only needed inside the convention center and on our way home from downtown Saturday night.
Teresa, Deb, and Jodi sharing the kingsize bed to have a quiet time early Saturday morning...although I don't know how quiet it was--the rest of us were milling around getting ready for the day. Hopefully these three don't hold it against me for catching them in their jammies.
The view from our hotel room balcony--we walked part way around this pond to get to the convention center.
Saturday morning...here's Nancy Leigh DeMoss presenting all the ladies with the True Woman Manifesto (you can check it out at http://www.truewoman.com/).
At the end of the conference we were able to get a nice group shot in front of the Revive our Hearts banner.
The view as we walked from the convention center back to our hotel.
Then the adventure began....a taxi, a sailboat, a trolley, a subway, a train, and yet another taxi. The conference was over at noon so we went sightseeing! Little did we know how easy it would be to get downtown to Navy Pier and how difficult it would be to get back to our hotel in Schaumburg! Boy did we laugh alot as we walked along Navy Pier, had lunch, enjoyed a sailboat ride, and then began our travels back to the hotel. I won't bore you with all the details but it was like the blind leading the blind in many regards. By the time we arrived back at our hotel it was only about 9pm but boy were we tired! It seemed like it was midnight.

The sailboat that we rode on.
On the sailboat before leaving the dock.
Part of the Chicago skyline. I believe that the Sears Tower is tall one on the left.
For Madison's sake---the street that we walked many blocks on as we traveled from subway station to train station.
Finally on the train. Exhausted but having a good time.
And that about does it for this post! Some of you were probably thinking it would never end.

Headed to Chicago!

I'm off to Chicago today to attend the True Woman Conference hosted by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I'll be meeting up with Jodi and 4 others from Casper. Matt and Sam will be watching the children and spoiling them rotten until Sunday! I'll come back with plenty of pictures from the event and our time in Chicago. You can check out the live video feeds of the conference at www.truewoman.com

Presents

When Carson or Jason have a poopy diaper Matt will often say to me "Mommy, Carson/Jason has a present for you." Well the other day after Madison had been sitting on the potty for a little while she exclaimed, "Mommy I have a present for you!" Oh the things she hears and picks up so easily!

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

At least once a year we try to make our way into DC to visit the animals at the National Zoo. This year we made that journey when Matt was off from work and Sam had a day off from school. As the kids get older it's clear that they'll enjoy this trip more and more. We started at the kid's farm where the cows were very lively. They were mooing so loudly that Carson was clinging onto me very tightly.
Then we made our way to the big cats. The lions were also very active. They were running around and chasing one another and roaring a bit here and there.
Here Madison and Carson are enjoying a break with the monkey/orangutan statutes.
It's not my preference that my husband would take a picture of my back side and really not my preference to post it on my blog....but this was the only shot we got in the ape house. Notice the one on the right covered with it's blankie. It was so cute the way it would wrap itself up and just sit there and watch us. As we were looking at it the one on the left made it's way over to us from the far corner and was literally nose to nose with me just looking into my eyes. It must have been a male because as Matt knelt down and got close to him, he quickly turned around and put his back to Matt. He wouldn't even look at Matt. It was so funny.
The elephants were out in the yard. They weren't doing anything extraordinary, just hanging out.
The pandas don't do much either but they are so cute. I really had to zoom in to get this picture of the cute cuddly bear.
One of the highlights of the trip was seeing this orangutan go across the wires they have where they can roam freely, for the most part. He was making his way across the walkway we were on and there was quite a crowd that had gathered. A zoo worker was monitoring him as he went across and about halfway across the walkway he pooped. Fortuneately nobody was that close to being directly underneath him but you could hear the entire crowd say "OOOHH!"
The sea lions were one of our last stops of the day. It's like he actually posed for me in this picture.
Sam and Carson enjoying a hug at the sea lion exhibit.
The day was a success. We saw a lot of other animals too even though we don't have pictures of all of them. Madison did not like the snakes! And she was disappointed that we didn't see the giraffes...where were they?
