September 2010....Outdoor Fun

Matt loves to take the kids to local playgrounds on Saturday mornings to run off their energy and to give me some time at home to get things done. We have many parks to choose from in our area, many of them are less than 10 minutes away. On this particular Saturday Matt took them to Black Hills Regional Park which has 2 playground areas, a lake, and lots of woodsy areas to roam in.

They enjoyed collecting acorns this particular Saturday.
And they also spent some time down at the lake admiring the ducks and throwing rocks into the water.
That very same weekend Matt decided to have a campout with them on the deck. It grew from a one night adventure to a 3 night adventure as he was working a late shift that week. The kids had a blast. I opted out of the adventure and enjoyed sleeping in my bed!
One of the highlights for the kids was having Smores for evening snack out on the deck.

Preschool....A New Adventure

This year we decided to put all three kids in a local Christian preschool program. Madison attends 3 days a week and the boys each go 2 days a week. There was a little hesitation by all three the first couple of days but now they are eager to go and every morning are asking, "Is it preschool day?"

The first day for Carson and Madison and open house day for Jason.

And While We Were Away....

While Matt and I were enjoying our time in Arizona, Grammy and Grandpa kept the kids busy in Maryland.
They enjoyed time at various neighborhood parks.
And time just hanging out in the front yard.
Spending time with Grandpa.
And reading stories inside with Grammy.
They enjoyed eating snacks out on the deck.
One morning Grammy even took them to Bounce U, a place where they could really run off some energy.
Carson practices his baseball skills while there.
They also spent some time cleaning some of the deck furniture.
And more time at a park.
Madison was content riding her bike around the circle at the park.
Madison even got to go to a birthday party while we were gone....all dressed and ready to go.
And if Madison is posing for pictures, the boys want a chance to pose, too.

They enjoyed playing with their new monster trucks that they went shopping for.
Grammy and Grandpa were even able to get them all ready and go to church on Sunday.

Madison enjoyed playing with her new cake set that she went shopping for.
One more cheesy grin taken while out on a walk.
And just hanging with Grandpa at a park.

Our Little Getaway!

Matt and I were blessed to be able to take a trip out west over Labor Day weekend. It all started when we realized we had an abundance of airline miles that would expire once we cancelled our credit cards attached to them. We decided it would be better to take a trip before the baby rather than after. I called mom to see if her and dad would be able to come to Maryland to watch the kids then we started thinking about where we would like to go. We chose Arizona because Matt had never been there and I hadn't been there since I was very young. We were gone for 4 full days and 3 nights. We flew into Phoenix, rented a car, and drove north to the Grand Canyon to begin.

We stayed at a hotel right outside the park entrance...close enough to go there the afternoon that we arrived and then back the next day.

I took this picture the first night we went to the Grand Canyon. Matt would've loved to go down on this ledge but we were being a little cautious that first night. The pictures really don't capture the beauty of it all.

A nice family took this picture for us.
The next morning we headed back to the park after a nice breakfast and enjoyed all the sites before heading on a little hike. We realized the squirrels were very aggressive and this one was climbing onto our backpack trying to get our snacks.

Another shot of the view.
Matt stops to pose with the canyon behind him.
And later climbs down a few ledges so I can capture a picture.
On the way out of the park he stopped to pose with Smokey the Bear.
We then headed south so Sedona. We had heard about this area from a number of people so we made reservations for 2 nights there...figuring there's really only so much a pregnant woman can do at the Grand Canyon.
The red rock formations were beautiful and it was a wonderful little town to be at for a couple days. Great little shops and restaurants to enjoy.
This picture was taken at a lookout just prior to arriving at the airport for our helicopter ride.

Yes, we decided to go on a helicopter ride. It was pretty inexpensive once we traded a couple hours of our time to go and look at a timeshare property. Somehow I got the front seat and Matt was in the back with a lady and her daughter. It was pretty cool being able to see everything from that vantage point.
After the ride we captured a picture of us in front of the helicopter.
We stayed at a lovely hotel that had a wonderful pool area which we enjoyed the first day we arrived.
This little sitting area was located right outside our sliding glass door.
On our last day we stopped at the Chapel of the Hills for a quick look before heading back to Phoenix. It offered some great views of the rocks and of a very nice house.
The front of the Chapel of the Hills.
We then headed back to Phoenix to catch our flight back to Maryland. Our trip was a relaxing time and although we missed the kids our time went by so fast.

August 2010...The Rodeo, The Fair, and More Swimming

At the beginning of August our care group had a date night...intended for couples only but a few of us brought our kids because we couldn't get a babysitter. We traveled north to go to a real rodeo. It was so much fun and great entertainment!
The kids got to go in the ring before the event began and try a ride on a "mechanical" bull.
Carson goes first.
Then Jason.
And finally Madison.
We always make a trip to the local Montgomery County Fair. Besides seeing all the animals the kids love to try out all the farm equipment.

They also got their faces painted by a Christian group which shares the gospel with them as they get their faces painted.
Carson loved it.
And of course there was plenty of swimming and jumping in the pool on our deck.
